Southeast State Poster Assignment/Rubric

·You need a poster size poster board (anything 11x17 or bigger) with the thickness greater than paper (color and thickness is your choice as long as it is not thin like paper)

Your poster must include the following anywhere (typed and pasted on or written clearly) on the poster:
1. A picture or drawing of your state, labeled boldly and clearly
2. The capital labeled clearly
3. The state bird, flower and tree (words or pictures)
4. The population of the state written clearly
5. The year it became a state written clearly
6. The state flag (draw or print and glue a picture of it)
7. Name at least one main or popular crop grown in the state
8. Any landforms (names of popular mountains, beaches, or does it consist of wetlands? Etc.)
9. Three interesting facts (list resources used to find these facts on the back of the poster. If you use a web site, write the web address on the back of the poster, if you used a book, write the name of the book on the back of the poster, etc.)
10. Have a “tourist” section on the poster that includes:
a. At least two famous landmarks
b. At least one historic site
c. List the state motto
d. List the state website
e. Choose one or all of the following options: list an amusement park, a scenic route, or a state park

The back of your poster should include the following:
1. Your name
2. Homeroom teacher
3. Due date
4. Rubric checklist (glue on)
5. Resource list: YOU MUST USE AT LEAST THREE DIFFERENT RESOURCES FOR THIS POSTER, LIST THEM ON THE BACK OF THE POSTER

Ideas for researching a state:

HALLOWEEN PARTY TOMORROW = Please do not wear costumes to school, costumes must be put on in class before the party (not in the bathroom) and do not wear makeup. We will have class until 9:10, go to music from 9:10-9:40, prepare for our Halloween party, and it will begin at 10am.

Reading: Next week will start a new book in Reading called Stone Fox. Students will be given packets to fill in daily similar to the Sarah, Plain and Tall packets. After finishing the book in class students will be expected to turn in the packets completed for a reading grade. We will read from the book and work in the packets daily in class.

Tomorrow is our test on the vocabulary for Sarah, Plain and Tall. Students should study the vocab. cards we made in class. The packet we have been working on in class will also be due. The whole packet should be completed making sure that all sentences are written neatly and correctly. The last page of the packet is a crossword puzzle. Students should use the vocab. words to complete the crossword.

A reminder that reading minutes are due on Monday.

October 7 - Homework

Due tomorrow:

Explanation of assignments:
Science Vocab cards are due tomorrow. A list of all the words has been provided to each student. The list should be signed by a parent and returned tomorrow along with the vocab. cards. The cards will be taken for a grade.

SCIENCE TEST OVER VOCAB. ON FRIDAY! We reviewed for the test today and we will also review tomorrow (Thursday). Please make sure your child is studying their vocab cards at home tonight and tomorrow night for the test on Friday.

A reminder that daily reading minutes will be due on Tues.

Picture day went very well today. Order forms are due back by October 14th. Even if you are not ordering pictures please choose the pose number that you would like in the yearbook, circle it, and have your child turn it in by the 14th.
