HALLOWEEN PARTY TOMORROW = Please do not wear costumes to school, costumes must be put on in class before the party (not in the bathroom) and do not wear makeup. We will have class until 9:10, go to music from 9:10-9:40, prepare for our Halloween party, and it will begin at 10am.

ABSENT STUDENTS = Assignment sheets have been filled out and put in your desk if you would like to come in after school and get your work. Also, you will take the S.S. vocab. quiz tomorrow if you were absent Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (study vocab. cards).

To be made up:
1. Read ch. 1 and 2 of Stone Fox, make vocab. cards for ch 1 and 2 (words are listed on the rubric sheet in the packet) and complete pages 1, 2, and 3 in the Stone Fox packets.
2. S.S. worksheets (in your desk if you did not request work to be sent home)
2. Don't forget to turn in last weeks reading minutes when you get back. New reading minutes are due on Monday, Nov. 2nd

Students should study for the vocab quiz on Monday in Social Studies. Vocab. cards were made in class to study from. The words are: history, culture, region, custom, ancestor, immigrant, slavery, heritage, and ethnic group.

Coming next week.....

Reading: Next week will start a new book in Reading called Stone Fox. Students will be given packets to fill in daily similar to the Sarah, Plain and Tall packets. After finishing the book in class students will be expected to turn in the packets completed for a reading grade. We will read from the book and work in the packets daily in class.

Science quiz tomorrow!
Know the following (we reviewed this list in class as well):
1. Paper takes up the most space in a landfill
2. Be able to name three things we can recycle
3. Know that when there is an oil spill, the oil pollutes the soil and water
4. It is not a good idea to throw away aluminum cans because it takes up landfill space and can be recycled
5. What is the difference between a landfill and a dump (refer to “What a Dump” article)

Students can enter the yearbook contest. If they would like to try to make the cover for the yearbook, read the purple sheets that were sent home yesterday. All entries due on Friday.

-we have been discussing recycling in science
-students will need to know the difference between a landfill and a dump, and what the following terms mean:

*all terms can be found in chapter 3 of the Science book
*we will be reviewing for the quiz in class as well

Friday, October 16

Reading minutes are due on Monday

Students are to practice the spelling words. The list is written on a blue half sheet of paper located in the pocket folder. Five words are new to fourth grade and the rest are review words from 1st through 3rd grade. The test will be on Friday, October 23rd.

Thursday, October 15

Tomorrow is our test on the vocabulary for Sarah, Plain and Tall. Students should study the vocab. cards we made in class. The packet we have been working on in class will also be due. The whole packet should be completed making sure that all sentences are written neatly and correctly. The last page of the packet is a crossword puzzle. Students should use the vocab. words to complete the crossword.

A reminder that reading minutes are due on Monday.

Students should study for the Social Studies Vocab. quiz tomorrow. Students have vocab. cards and review sheets to study from. The review sheet and vocab. cards are located in the S.S. section of the blue pocket folder.

Sarah, Plain and Tall test will be on Friday. Students will need to finish the packet and study the vocab. cards by Friday. The packet and vocab. cards are located in the Reading section of the blue pocket folder. This will be tomorrow nights homework.

Lunch order forms are due on Friday.

Tuesday, October 13th

Homework:
1. Sarah, Plain and Tall Vocab. cards (test over vocabulary and one character from the book is on Friday)
2. Social Studies Review Worksheet (use chapter 1 in the book to find the answers)
-Vocabulary quiz is on Thursday. Students should study vocab. words nightly until the quiz.
3. New Reading Minute sheet has been passed out and will be due Monday, October 19th

Picture order forms are due tomorrow (Wednesday, the 14th). Even if you are not ordering pictures please circle the image you would like placed in the yearbook.

RETAKES ARE NOVEMBER 18TH. If you wish to do retakes you may hang on to your picture order form for now and you will receive a new form with your child's new image on it to choose from on November 18th.

Due tomorrow:

Explanation of assignments:
Science Vocab cards are due tomorrow. A list of all the words has been provided to each student. The list should be signed by a parent and returned tomorrow along with the vocab. cards. The cards will be taken for a grade.

SCIENCE TEST OVER VOCAB. ON FRIDAY! We reviewed for the test today and we will also review tomorrow (Thursday). Please make sure your child is studying their vocab cards at home tonight and tomorrow night for the test on Friday.

A reminder that daily reading minutes will be due on Tues.

Picture day went very well today. Order forms are due back by October 14th. Even if you are not ordering pictures please choose the pose number that you would like in the yearbook, circle it, and have your child turn it in by the 14th.
